Star fish removal, dive safety,
on American Samoa advisory council agenda
NOAA's National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa will meet on Wednesday, April 3, to discuss crown-of-thorns starfish removal in the sanctuary, dive safety and the upcoming Festival of Sites expo, in addition to other topics.
The public meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Tauese P.F. Sunia Ocean Center in Utulei, American Samoa.

The National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa Advisory Council was established in 2005 to insure public participation in the management of the sanctuary. The council is composed of 10 government and 10 non-governmental representatives. Serving in a volunteer capacity, the council members represent a variety of local user groups, as well as the general public.
Designated in 1986, the National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa is located in the cradle of Polynesia's oldest culture and is thought to support the greatest diversity of marine life in the National Marine Sanctuary System, including a wide variety of coral and other invertebrates, fishes, turtles, marine mammals and marine plants. NOAA co-manages the sanctuary with the American Samoa Government and works closely with communities adjacent to the sanctuary, all within the context of Samoan cultural traditions and practices.
